2022 Winners
Lanceine Campbell
Lanceine was born in Jamaica and came to the United States as a teenager, and shortly thereafter found out she was pregnant. As she writes in her essay, "Being here without my mother and grandmother was extremely lonely. I knew my family was disappointed at this point. I felt all hope for my life was out the door. However, when I did go to the doctor and heard the baby's heartbeat I knew I had to grow up and take care of business."
Since much of her schooling credentials from Jamaica were not valid in the United States, Lanceine had to complete her GED requirement before starting college. She completed that in three months, and is currently studying social work at Sinclair and has a 3.66 GPA. She is determined to "make Dayton Right to Life proud to have assisted me with achieving my goals." She has two children, three-year-old Joshua and one-year-old Traveon. |
Magalia Frazier
Magalia is a past scholarship winner from 2017. She now has five classes left to finish her Social Work and Sociology degrees from Sinclair. Her daughter Ayreon is now seven and Magalia bought her first house this past spring. As she writes in her essay, "I am learning to do small repairs and yard work to keep my house up to par. Ayreon can play in our yard, do as many cartwheels as her heart desires, and draw on the sidewalk with her chalk with no one to tell us no."
She works, goes to school, and loves poetry. |
